Hello, im new to this, bare with me.

I'm wondering how to run my 5th session (which is for 3 hrs in the afternoon), as we have not done it before. I am the session supervisor and i'm looking for some advice and tips. Will have 6 children aged between 2.5 and 4yrs. Please help start back on Monday 6th September.

Hi Bluey

What exactly are you asking help with? I run 9 sessions a week, 3 hourly ones on the morning and 2.5 hourly ones in the afternoon with a seperate lunchclub.

Im just wondering how the afternoon will run. As for the past 3 years we have a good routine which everyone knows what is happening and when. Now im worried as im not sure what will happen when some children go home and others stay for lunch and when we should start the afternoon session. Do you have to provide completley different resources and activites for that afternoon? What about art/craft activities and adult focus activities do they have to be different? Please help i love my job and i dont want to get it wrong.

Hi Bluey

We run 9 sessions a week and they are all individual sessions, as in each has it's own planning for the children who will be attending. For example, Monday morning starts at 9 with registration, then free play, rolling snack in the middles somewhere and then a quick tidy up before storytime. At 12 the ones going home leave while the lunch children go to lunch. Sometimes we have children come at 12 for lunch so they join them too. At 12.30 we finish lunch and let the aftenoon children in (and any lunchers not staying go home). We have registration again and then free play, rollling snack etc. Tidy up, story time and then all go home.

The only activities we repeat in the afternonn is cooking, so some children do it twice if they stay all day. If we go for a walk, we only do it once in the day.

Have you registered with Ofsted for full day care? If your children will be on the premises for longer than 4 hours, you must re-register. If you have no lunch club, you have to be 'child free' for at least 20 minutes between two sessions.

Hope this helps. You can email me: preschool@thewattage.co.uk if you want to ask more questions in private.

Thankyou Kaz (the first one), sounds like royalty.

You have put my mind at ease, a bit. I will ask the manager tomorow about re-registering with ofsted. Just abit apprehensive about going back.
