I finished the E100 last year and found it very demanding!. It is a lot of theory and showing your understanding of how the different theorists approaches are used in your everyday practise. Interesting but time consuming. I found it hard to write an assignment that included all the points the tutor was looking for and to include my own voice. And the refrencing was a nightmare to get your head around! Worth it in the end though, it did help me to think about how the children learn and play.

Hi, I did the E100 before studying for my BA in Early Childhood Studies and really enjoyed it. I worked full-time while studying at the OU and didn't find the course too time consuming. If you have a background in childcare and child development, you shouldn't find it too difficult. You need to be able to work independently and must really love studying though ;) Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Hi
Just incase you are still thinking about this - i think you should go for it!! I am doing my last assignment for this course at the moment and it has been so inspiring and helped me so much - I have loved every minute of it and cannot wait to do the next one.
(the facebook page is probably quiet as we are all busy with the assignment!!)

If this is your only option go for it!!
I did the old two part course E123 and E124, also with full time job and found it straight forward and really enjoyed it, it contributed to my own professional development immensely and i would recommend all early years staff to aim high....
if you have options just go straight for your foundation degree its much more indepth study and quicker to complete.....OU although handy as you don't have to go takes such a long time.
In my last year of OU study i started my foundation degree with a university and i enjoyed it so much more as you get the face to face with knowledgeable tutors and share your experiences with other colleagues and vice versa. I went one afternoon a week :)

Hi everyone
I'm interested In this course, I currently work in a nursery on a voluntary basis and was wondering if completing this courses qualifies you to work in a nursery?

Hi Cd28 The E100 course gives you the Certificate in Early Years Practice which is a valid Level 4 qualification on the government education website.....check the website out and you can check any quals you have to see if they're valid
https://www.education.gov.uk/eypqd/qualification-search?sortExpression=QualificationTitle&searchTerm=certificate%20in%20early%20years%20practice&levels=&awardingBodyId=35&isValidOnly=False
Whether this means someone would employ you with only voluntary experience and a distance learning course is anybodys guess......have you got any other childcare qualifications? I think if voluntary work is the pnly expereince and knowledge you'll have i think you might struggle as there's no introduction to the content the course assumes you already have the background knowledge of a level 3 qualification. Good Luck though

I am so sorry to say this, but many employers distrust the actual ability of OU graduates.

Thanks for the replies! Really whomn? This is worrying it will be a real shame if all the hard work and money I have spent getting an open degree from the OU will mean nothing and still leave me just volunteering.
Thanks
