parental involvement

parental involvement

by: Rachyroo - 14-03-10 15:18

currently at nursery we offer a stay and play session for parents to comein and see what happens in the day, this is only offered around once a year, i feel this is inadequate and would like to increase it to a session every week. for example week one monday, week two tuesday etc.

i was wondering what are your thoughts on this and do you feel this is something that is practical or not?

Hi Rachyroo we do exactly that for our open sessions one week we do a monday, the following week tuesday e.t.c the parents really enjoy popping in to see their child's environment and its nice for both children and staff to have a chat especially if they are parents who are in a rush in the mornings and dont have time to have a one-on one chat with the child's key person ! We find it is practical doing it like this and is also fair so all parents have an opportunity to come into nursery at some point if they wish!

Hope this helps

We have donuts for dads. Dads get to come with there children before school/nursery statrs, yes it means that someone has to be there early, we hace like a parents association that use this sort of thing to fundraise) There are a variety of low key activities to do together, reading, drawing, puzzles for dads and chidren to do together. We have them once a term and they are always sold out. They are asked for a three pound entry fee per family to cover food and drinks. The fod is finger food, donuts and muffins etc
