I am studying the BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development and as part of my unit 4 professional practise portfolio I have to:

'Describe the role of continuing professional development for workers in the Children's Care Learning and Development sector'

I know that this would include SENCO training but I was woundering what elso that would include?

If anybody could help me that would be fantastic Thank You.

The role of continuing professional development is to ensure that staff have up to date knowledge (things change all the time) and the skills and knowledge they need to fulfill the demands of the role they are employed to do. Some training is mandatory (such as First Aid or safeguarding) others optional. It is also easy to get a bit 'stale' so on-going training where you can pick up new ideas is always good. Likewise the opportunity to network with other professionals can be invaluable.

Make sure you answer the question which is about the role, not a description of the types of training available (although this may come into it).

Thank you!

So which of the training would be mandatory and which optional?

If I was answering the question, I would describe the role of CPD with regards to dveloping a graduate led workforce, and would include reference to EYPS and raising standards to ensure children meet the ECM agenda.

The role of training is to meet children's individual needs, especially important if things change.

CPD can be about updating or upskilling. It is great for reinvigorating and inspiring practitioners. With a little creative thinking CPD can be accessible to all practitioners.
