EYFS review

A review of the EYFS was launched today.

Do you think that it's currently too bureaucratic or there's too much paperwork?

I think most of the bureacracy and paperwork is down to missunderstanding and mostly by Ofsted.

The amount of paperwork pushed by the local authority early years' advisers and QTS team might have something to do with it. Half the Amazon rainforest must have been cut down to feed some of the paperwork I have seen being given to settings.

I do like the EYFS, and I too have seen a few rainforests passed out in paperwork. We shelved a lot of the paperwork and told the LA "no". It still feels like there is a lot of paperwork, but most of it is observations and trying to organise them into something legible is the most time consuming usually for us. The EYFS is rather flexible and stretchy, and lends itself so well to nursery life that it takes a while for the girls to actually "get it".

I think there has been so many changes since i qualified 7 years ago its been hard to know if we are coming or going. Within my setting me have got our paperwork just right everyone understands what we are doing and now it is under threat of being all changed again.

For the first time in ages childminders are being seen as "fellow professionals" as we are all delivering the same thing, yet if the EYFS is changed I bet it is childminders who will come off worse!!
