Hi Ali how pleased am I another CNN with Sschool nurses!! When I did my interview, which know seems ages ago my interview consisted of a presentation which had to last 15min on teaching children how and why they should wash there hands. they wanted me to use a lap top, I think to assess my computer skills. then it was followed by a formal chat, asking things like how would you cope working on your own and as part of a team. child protection isues and what you think you could give to the job. It is a very intersting job and is different to working with Health visitors, where will you be working? Which PCT? good luck for thursday and hope all goes well!!

Did they inform you before interview that you would have to do a presentation?! I haven't been told that i need to. I have been reading up on every child matters, Healthy schools and CAF as well as child protection. The position is with central Derby PCT based in a medical centre next door to a sure start childrens centre. I am really hoping i am successful - i am not looking forward to the interview though! What did you do before this job? Thanks for advice!

I have applied for a couple of posts working as a school nurse assistant, but was never called for an interview. It was a shame as it sounded like a lovely job and the hours were a bouns to suit with my family life. However I have now been offered a community nursery nurse with the health visitors which I am looking forward to.

Is a school nurse assistant the same as you guys as I have never seen any posts advertised for nursery nurses? The post I went for never specificaly asked for a nursery nurse and the band was only a 3 when I know that nursery nurses can be a band 4 with in the NHS.

I have an interview in two week for community nursery nurse and would also appreciate some advise. I have been told I have to do a 5 minute presentation on ;'How the nursery nurse can support children and families.  I have never done a presentation in my life, has anyone else had to do a presentation at their interview.  I don't want this to let me down.

have you got a laptop? have you thought about doing a powerpoint presentation? It is really easy and you could always do handouts to give out too, that should make an impression!

Hi I have done a few presentations over the years, power point presentations are effective and simple if you know the room you are presenting in has a smart board you can save it onto a pen drive and just put it in. Like purepurple said give handouts you can add additional information that is not on your power point. Another idea is on a large piece of card (A3) put the key words that you are going to discuss e.g role of the nursery nurse, children parents etc if using this method again give out handouts. Power point is not  available, only a flip chart andpens. I am going to write it all down, also have bullet points,,, have hand outs for the interviewers, and going to print as much of on the computer as I can before the day, that way I can read from my notes, write on the white board and also stick (with blue tac) the computer print offs as well,, hopefully they will be impressed,  After all, its 5 minutes, so should pass quickly,,, (I hope)

Hi im a nursery nurse for a school nurseing team my role is to mainly do reception screen - height weight hearing and visionand year 6 screening - height and weight and we occasionally do health promotion sessions with the parents and with the children in our schools. what is your role? it seems there isnt yet a defined role and other school health nursery nurses within our pct have differing roles and are more involved with the day to day school health issues e.g. child protection, record of concerns, a + e and hospital attendances follow up ect

Hi Meli I havent been on the sight for a long time, so hope you read this.I do do the height and weight monitoring, visions, health promotion the same as you really. I also get involved in all other areas within the school Health team. I also liase with health visitng CNNs as the children will transfer from nursery into reception. the work is varied and Im very busy at the moment, as the other CNN in school health has left!! Let me know how you are doing. regards.

Hi everyone! I've just discovered this site.

I'm a nursery nurse with experience in LEA, day nursery, playgroups, family centre and Early Years SEN. I'm delighted that I've an interview on 22nd as CNN with school nurses but I need as much advise as you can give me. I've not been asked to do a presentation, as I note that some of you were, so that's a relief !
