No websites, but I do remember that lots of sweet things get eaten, to ensure a sweet year to come.  I believe apple dipped in honey is traditional.  ANd more meaningful than colouring in!

Hi ams

google jewish new year activities for pre-school children and lots of ideas pop up!!

However, remember that the EYFS asks you to provide materials and resources for them to explore.  With 2-4 year olds the end product is not the means to an end - its the process, taking part and the enjoyment that matters.  Worksheets should rarely be used in pre-schools now as they are too prescriptive and not appropriate for childrens learning and development.

Provide examples of a product that you are making out of the resources - but let the children explore and put together their idea of their own work, rather than what you think their end product should be to take home to parents.

Good luck and enjoy watching the children explore

Why not celebrate ENGLISH celebrations

never mind the rest of the world. How many children do you look after that will end up in jewish based countries....

yes i will get run down for this, But yet again, I blame the prats at ofsted... Lets teach really young children about the rest of the world. Ummmmmmmmm WHY

It is good practice for children to learn about a range of different faiths and cultures, especially focusing on those celebrated by the children and staff attending the setting. As there is a large Jewish population in the UK I expect Jewish New Year will be relevant to many nurseries.

Incidentally it is not down to Ofsted to set the curriculum, they are the body that regulates quality.

It is perfectly possible to be both Jewish (a faith) and British (a nationality).  Those chidlren need to see their reflected and welcomed in their childcare setting.  Others need to know that there are many cultures and practices and to have an understanding of them.  In my experience they are always interested in other festivals as a) they are fun! and b) there are common elelements with the festivals they may celebrate in their own cultures.

Mikey, your posts are becoming increasingly provacative, offensive and slightly unhinged.  I would like to categorigally state that you do not speak for me, and  that White British culture has always been very good at taking onboard traditions form other faiths and cultures.  Think about Christmas trees, which Prince Albert introduced.  Think about how so many of the so-called Christain tradtions around Chirstmas and Easter hark back to a pagan past.  Think about Carnival, and Divali, and the way London celebrates Cinese New Year. We leave the candles form our Halloween lanterns out to be divyas for Divali - if there is luck going around, I would like some too!

I am proud of the diversity in my local community, and I want my daughters to learn about other cultures - I can teach them about our own English traditions as that is my own background.  I need their preschool to develop their understanding of other traditions.
