we have family "scrapbooks" they live in the childrens draw and can be taken home as they please, the parents and children are welcome to add pictures and photos to this, we add in blank learning stories for the parents to fill in and there is also a page at the from for the childs weekly routine i.e morn afternoon and night daily so we can see what the child and their family do outside of nursery, there is also space for a family tree. the children mainly use this book to show their photos and stick in important art they may have done, basicly we let the children decide what they put in THEIR book. hope this helps.

We use home school books, they are taken home each night and brought back in morning. The childs key worker will record what the child had to eat, time of sleep and for how long, how much the child eat and anything that they feel is important for the parent to be aware of.
Parents can record things like if the child has had a restless night etc. The reason we use them is if a member of staff is on an early this means they may have finished when parents come to pick child up, so the books ensure that parents are given any information about their childs day.
The format we use is each child has his/her own book with name date of birth and key worker on the front. Inside we have the date a section for keyworkers to write and a section for parents to write. Ours look like a hard back diary.

Thank you Kelly and Mandy - a lot of food for thought!
