Sultible person referring to Ofsted for a day Nursery

Hello everyone,
I am currently a Childminder, I have recently been granted planning permission to change my facilities to a day Nursery.
Can anyone give me some ideas of the questions i will be asked to be a "suitable person"?
Is there any information/books anyone would recommend to read?
As well this may be a silly question but i am only 22 and am wondering if my age is going to go against me and if you know if you could be turned down as a suitable person??
I would be very grateful if anyone could answer any of my questions.
Thank you.
Hannah

I've never been a childminder but I would hazard a guess that the 'suitable person' interview is very similar tot hat of a new childminder. They are after all also registered as a 'suitable person'.

I was asked about policies, recruitment processes and how I looked for quality staff, staffing issues and Safeguarding that I remember. Whole interview took about 45minutes.
2nd time around it took about 15minutes as they just checked policies and did internal checks on the previous interview.
As your a child minder already you will already have all the knowledge, but perhaps not with recruitment? Just make sure you have a sound recruitment policy and know it well.
Your age will not go against you. They may ask you some questions that test your knowledge and experience though.

Thank you for all your responses. Really appreciate it!
I do have the base line knowledge from my experience of childminding and will take on board all the above comments.
The only thing i worry about is having the interview for the "suilible person" after you have put money into the businness completed all the work ect. Obviously if then you dont pass you have put all the time, money into the Nursery to then be turned down..........
I understant that it is very important for Ofsted to do the interview as if they didnt do the suitable person anybody could open a Nursery. I think again my age i doubt myself and have worked myself up!

Hi Hannah
I had my 'suitable person' interview last year december after christmas (bare in mind i was 24years) it took less than 30mins for the actual interview (the rest was just normal conversation about general things outside childcare) i was asked to show oftsted around the premises and asked about policies, when woud i need to inform ofsted about certein things and how i was going to promte childrens needs etc and also how many children i felt could fit in the premises at one time and most important if i had A FIRST AID CERTIFICATE and a MINIMUM LEVEL 3 QULIFICATION etc.
After this i was told i was more than suitable for the job (but the worst thing was having to wait for my new crb via ofsted that took 5 whole months even though i had previouse one done less than 3months ago)
I am now a happy owner of a day Nursery and hope you will be too
Best of luck Hannah x

Please dont panick to much about your age I had my suitable persons last year at the grand old age of 23. She came at 10.00and left 12.30 We did a walk round of the nursery (this does happen in all cases) and then we sat in the office where i was asked questions about how I came to be at the nursery, what qualifications Id done etc.. and then the "scary" questions came- how do you meet the welfare requirments... Eyfs...ECM...the trick is to stay calm you know what you do to safeguard children etc you just have to tell her your practice. Hope it goes well fingers crossed!!

hey
im 21 and opening my own day nursery this year, so I know exactly how you feel!
with regards to the interview for the registration visit are you allowed to have policies in front of you? they dont expect you to memorise all of nursery ethos do they? I spoke with the inspector on the phone a few weeks ago and she gave me a huge list (some of which she was talking so fast I couldn't write down) of what she will want to look at, so im panicking now incase I forget anything.
Also, is there a list anywhere of what they will ask you and want to see? I have had a search on the ofsted website/online etc.
thanks in advance :)

Hello, not sure if this helps but I had my interview in January this year age 23! I dreaded the interview for weeks but when she came to conduct my interview she was lovely and put me right at ease. The types of questions I was asked was just relating to the EYFS and how I would ensure this was being delivered to a high standard. The questions were easy and the inspector I had was lovely so don't stress too much - I did and all it caused me was loss of sleep, stress and it was so unecessary.....x
Let us know how you get on and good luck!! x
