Literacy and the EYFS

Hi all, hoping someone more knowledgeable than I can help shed some light.

What do you perceive the recent EYFS changes impact will be on literacy?

I am interested in creative literacy practice (storytelling to be specific) and I just want to check that the following has been correctly understood by me.

1. One of the three main learning goals now covers early literacy skills such as communication and language. Is this a main focus for children of all ages in the EYFS or more for the very young children?

2. Literacy is another area of all the 7. Can I rightly presume that as such this new EYFS framework ebraces early literacy skills more than the last?

Any help very much appreciated.

Having had a brief look (on the plane to my holiday last week!) there is very little chnage in the actual areas of learning and develoment, all the ELG's still seem to be there. CLL is now C&L & LD, thus making C&L a prime area (for all ages from birth) and Literacy will now be a specific area (more like a curriculum area). When you have got to grips with is it is really about the social aspects being prime and the academic areas being specific.

Hi Kaz, just a light bit of holiday reading then? Dedication with a capital D! :)

Thanks for summarising. To confirm, in your oppinion literacy is no more paramount now than it was?
