Sometimes its hard, but I like it. I assess NVQ4. I had more than 2 day training. Have you experenced yourself what is like to be a candidate?

It all depends whom you work with...candidates, provider..

Hi no I haven't been down the NVQ route I trained 12 years ago at college and out into the work place. I am doing my degree and EYPS (in september 2010 will have foundation degree!!!)

It just helps you to understand what your candidates go hrouhg and the process itself if you had you NVQ. It is true that you assess competence, but it is rearly that candidates "fail" it is rather they are not competent YET or htere where no evidence to prove it.

I still feel tough a pressue from Internal Verifier that you have to move on your candidates as we have assigned just certain amount of visits per candidate and you have to sign off 9 units using those visits. Its financial issues....

Not all candidates are quick or at the level required and then I feel bigger pressure on me..., but I never do anything for them! My responsibility is to plan, review, feedback, assess, sign, support, advice...that what I do.

I worked as a full time assessor and I loved assessing, getting to know the candidates, seeing them progress visiting different settings. What I didnt love was candidates being pushed through when they clearly weren't competent, assessors dong the work for the candidates just so that they would complete and the training provider would then get paid. Hence I left and went back to managing!

janny there is sooo much truth there bet the don't publish that in the magazine way too pandoras box. i refuse to have anything to do with train to gain the only people i assess now are those who attend a proper college based training course, no on line courses, no distance learning and certainly no private "we get you through quickly" courses. they're all producing people who really shouldn't be in the sector. training should be training, education, not a tick off as quick as you can exercise.

My friend is on the train to gain scheme, it seems to be quite shambolic

oh right, as a assessor you are looking for competences and whether they can do the job or not... really.. sorry to hear about the train to gain scheme though
