Pick something you are interested in to do with your placement or work environment. Try to make it short and simple or you will struggle.
Have a look at some of the books on how to write your dissertation. They have ideas and show you how to work out a research question and carry out the research. Some even show you how to lay out your finished project to maximize marks.

Hi
Do you know much about therapeutic play provided in hospital by qualified play specialists??
This could a great area for research:
Do parents know what their child is entitled to when in hospital from a play specialists?
Do parents know that their child should recieve therapetic play from a play specialist when visiting an A&E dept?
Were children offered therapeutic play when they were treated on a children's ward or A&E?
This is an area that is not well known but their is lots of research material and lots of regulations from the goverment what what SHOULD be provided.
Hope this area is of interest.

Hi
I have just finished my research project for the FD. As Tunja says ensure that your research is a subject that really interests you, that you can undertake qualative/quantative research easily, questionaires, photographic evidence. I undertook outdoor play in relation to enabling free flow between outdoors and in, and the benefits of outdoor play. Research is plentiful for outdoors in general, but then I made it more difficult including the free flow synopsis - not much research has been done to highlight the benefits of free flow.
In hindsight an area that has been thoroughly researched has been RISK - in relation to outdoor play. I wish I had of undertaken this as within the setting it is rarely encouraged, hindering development overall.
We all found it beneficial to focus on our settings, that way undertaking work with staff, parents, carers and children was appropriate and aided our study and research. Basically the management allowed me to question staff, practice, work with the children to inform my research. Look into something called the Mosaic approach!
We were also given a book by Guy Robert-holmes, "doing your Early Years Research project" a step by step guide, Paul Chapman Publishers ISBN: 1-4129-0112-x
Hope this helps a little and good luck.
