Snow

Stuck up here in the far north with snow everywhere. What rules do you all have about snowball fights? We have limited outdoor space but it seems a shame to say no when everyone is so excited about the idea.

Avoid yellow snow.
I don't understand why you'd need rules about snowballs. Just a bit of common sense should surely be enough - e.g. if they don't like it they can stay inside (we had one child the other day who hated the snow), if they are happy to throw snowballs then they can't complain when they get snowballed in return, wrap up warm, stay out for a short period of time so as not to get too cold (gloves will obviously get wet).

You're right i know and we do all the sensible stuff about being out in the snow suppose I just need to risk assess really. have a parent who freaks if her child gets the slightest bruise and so am thinking of all the things that coud go wrong. Wouldn't life be simple without parents.

" if they are happy to throw snowballs then they can't complain when they get snowballed in return" - This! This is the rule I've always hammered into children when there are snow/water fights.

Shhh! She's actually stopped saying it for now :P
Snowballs shouldn't cause any damage as long as it's not icy (I once had a snowball thrown at me with a lump of ice in the middle - and it hurt). I know when some of the children here went out they were throwing snow at each other but weren't quite able to make it into balls so it was pretty much harmless. When the snow is slushy there are more likely to be accidents too, so it's best to go out when it's nice and fresh!
