Which qualification?

Which qualification?

Hello all,

I have searched the forum & couldn't find a post but apologies if this has been discussed before.

I have previously volunteered in a primary school through the charity VRH and have long wanted to move into the childcare sector. I work in retail & full-time study is not an option but I have found two colleges local to me providing part-time study. Each offers a different course; which is the most well regarded & more relevant to progressing/getting a job: 'Childhood studies CACHE level 2' or 'Children & young people's workforce level 2 certificate C & G'?

Also, I have been e-mailing local nurseries to enquire about volunteering so that I can gain my placement hours for the course but as yet have not had a response. I didn't want to telephone as I presume staff are too busy for phonecalls of this nature, how best can I approach them?

Many thanks,

Jenny

you cannot qualify in childcare with a license to prctice ie get a job without doing uo to 400 hrs during the course in a placement. the certificate is a good course and will lead to the level 3 which is the best and your license. you will find it very difficult to get a placement without being enrolled as your college wil do a crb and have an assessor and placement guide which they work with. if the local one is cache do it then the year after do the 3 diploma. take it slow and really embed your learning.

just a hint you wont get far emailing they will want to meet you so ring and ask to go in but college will set up a placement if its a good college
