Text Message Service

I'm not sure if I have asked this on here before (but I can't find it) does anybody use a text message service to remind parents of up and coming events at nursery?
Not sure if to buy into a service or just to set this up and manage it from my own phone as it is a business contract phone.
Anybody do this in their setting?

Yes, I send a text message to dads in the week up to a monthly Dads Stay and Play event. It has been a great success with many dads frequently commenting how much they value receiving the text reminder.

We use teachers2parents, well worth it, we use it for reminders-problems such as closures due to snow, all parents comment on how useful it is. Everyone always has their phone on them!

Texting sounds like a great service for short bits of info - how do you go about setting a Text Message service up??

I'm thinking of using my own phone for this, many parents already have my number as it is a work contract.

You can use your own phone but use a separate mobile number to your personal mobile number using a text service such as FishText. Renting a separate number from them costs £10 per year. Texts cost about 2p. See www.fishtext.com
(I am in no way affiliated to them - just a happy user of their service)

We use Parenta's Mail Merge System. Most parents own blackberry/I-Phones now days and we have a list of those that need Mail Merges printed if they don't have smartphones.
It's quick and easy way to get in touch with all our families. You can choose the groups you would like it to reach i.e. Baby Parents or NEG Children and it makes the letter specific to the recipatant name/child’s name to make it personalised.
