Sorry if I have misread the document, but am I right that it says EYPs will be considered equivalent to the new early years teachers BUT not able to be employed as such across the maintained nursery/school sector, except in free schools and academies, because they will not be classed as QTS.
Does this not make a mockery of 'equivalent status' . EYPs are good enough to be recognised as 'early years teachers' in some settings but not others?
Please, please someone tell me I have misunderstood and point my feeble brain in the right direction.

I think you're right! I'm just finishing my EYPS so if I pass I'll have equivilant to EYT to work in a pre-school or day nursery but if I wanted to work in a school (which I possible do) I'll still have to gain QTS!

you mean 3 years 6 months vs 4 years as to get your EYP you have to hold a degree!!!

Absolutely!! It isn't just 6 months!

I have EYP- it took me 4 and 1/2 years of studying
plus 20+ years experience
I really hate this government- they have destroyed all the efforts of the previous years to raise the status of early years workers.
Moving the goalposts again.
Once again I'm made to feel inferior and not quite good enough.

Could any one tell me what happens if you have not already started your EYPS but have got a foundation degree, do you have to do the new qualification or is there still scope to do EYPS.

I think the moral of the story is aim high and go for Qualified Teacher Status

Honestly QTS is not all it's cracked up to be. Many EYPs are doing a much better job than many Nursery Teachers who don't understand Early Years. However, there is no comparision between EYP & QTS. QTS is a much more rigourous training year followed by another year as an NQT. It is intensive and you have to jump through many more hoops but the people that come out the other side are teachers not people equipped with good EY practice.
