Fired Ofsted Inspectors
Fired Ofsted Inspectors

When we had our Ofsted inspection last year I had a lot of personal concerns I shared with my council support, she recommended I complained at the result but fearing worse I did not. Now I wonder if my inspector was one of the ones getting fired as she spent over 1.5 hours of the inspection going through her notes in the office. We are open 0730-1800hrs and she was only there 0900-1400 so of those hours only 3.5 were observing the children and staff. She did not speak to any parents or children. It was school holidays and instead of our usual 39 children we had 14 (no holiday club by choice) and half the staff with the pre-school leader and graduate member of staff on holiday. Bad luck ?
While on the subject we have been told to strip back on colour and displays in the Nursery in line with the EYFS but Ofsted complained their was a lack of displays and the good and outstanding Nurseries I have looked at online the walls are covered with stuff....?????
Yet we fill though word of mouth, parents are coming back with their third and fourth children and staff are with me for years.

have a look at this bagpus, some of the experiences here are just awful. For eg, one setting was inspected during their Xmas party. They were marked down for having unchecked adults on the premises (parent helpers) and having unsuitable food (party food brought in by parents)

I had a read through the link and it made for an interesting read! Whilst I do not doubt the intentions of Ofsted I do feel there needs to be some major changes to inspections. How they can get a true picture from spending one day every 3 years or so in a setting is beyond me!! Give us a chance to show you what we as settings bring to Childcare!

We have just been inspected and it was unfortunately on the back of a complaint. The complaint was unfounded however I was hugely concerned that the inspector DID NOT actually check the evidence for herself, she just took our word for it. I can say that it was our worse inspection in terms of Ofsted Quality that I’ve experienced. We are open from 7-7 although the inspection carried through from 9am-1.30pm and she was extremely concerned about what she was going to have for her lunch???
The Inspector did not look through any registers/Risk Assessments/Policies/SEF.....in fact I cannot name 1 document she did look at other than the Central Staffing Record. It was discussions and taking my word for it, she didn't back up Central Staffing by looking at Staff Inductions etc. I had a feeling that she didn’t know what she was looking for in terms of Paperwork!
Luckily I had done some training with my team which gave them the confidence to really show Ofsted what they had been achieving with the children.
I was told that inspections will be pretty much running like this from now on, with more emphasis on spending time observing in the rooms. That's great but my concern is that they will miss the bigger picture of the goings on of a nursery if it’s not, in the words of Ofsted, more 'depth and breadth'
We achieved a 'Good' but my opinion of the Inspector was 'Inadequate' and I’ve completely lost my faith in the standard of Inspections!
