Hi just wondered what your thoughts on the use of chalk in the playground is. i have been advised by a member of our management team that chilldren shouldn't chalk on the floor but on the appropriate blackboard surfaces on the walls. We always used the ground where I used to work to draw around people, make train tracks and roads that could be followed. This always engaged the boys in particular.

Puzzled....who would want to curb the enthusiasm of the boys when chalking on the floor outside...we do it all the time....for everything...drawing,adding.aiming,driving,nought and crosses...the list is endless....

A very old fashioned approach. Perhaps they think it doesn't look good to outsiders. If that is the case then add water and brooms to extend the play.

Madness, chalk washes away so easily! Plus I am sure the children would love to sweep the soapy water afterwards. It is a shame that it is like that, as you can have so much fun. Have you asked Management why this is the case? I always like to have the reasons behind such rules myself. A "This is not allowed" leadership without a reason why it is not allowed makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.
