Difference working as a nursery nurse & nanny ?

by: jacks - 04-03-13 16:19

Hello .... I would like to work as a Nanny as I have now worked in a nursery for 4 years and like to gain experience in different environments. Does anyone have any experience working as a Nanny and are there any real down points in the job ? Appreciate your comments.

Thx

I have worked as a nanny and the big downside is that it can be very lonely, you need to make sure you have contact with other nannies/adults, such as going to toddler groups or being part of a nanny network. If you have a nice family it can be lovely

I have just retired as a Nanny.

I will second the loneliness. If you manage to get a position in an area full of Nannies then you will be fine. My last three positions I had no one nearby to go on play dates with.

The standard hours for Nannying are usually longer days than Nursery Work.

It can be very rewarding as you can get a better bond with your charges.

Some families can end up being life long friends.

There is a Nanny board where you can chat to other Nannies/Childcarers

Pop over to there and make yourself known, find out if there is likely to be any others in your area.
