Help! Allergies

Hi all,

We have a child starting at our setting that has an allergy to pretty much all foods, food substances- reaction requires epi pen. The child only attends 2.5hr sessions each morning and so is fed by parents via tube at lunch time. I am confident that we will be able to care for this child as we would any other, but my slight worry is that we are then limiting other children's experiences in the way that when this child attends (every morning) other children can not access playdough, messy play that would usually consists of cornflour, oats, jelly- nor can we do group cooking activities (limited with space to do this elsewhere).

We are an inclusive setting so we will do our best to work around this- I am just curious if anyone else has had anything similar in meeting the needs of children that may have allergies/medical conditions- whilst also, meeting the needs of other children.

Any thoughts would be appreciated/

oh dear that is a worry and should of been thought about before admission is the children already enrolled were the priority. is the allergy to touch as well as ingestion/ iof it isnt touch then she can participate with the activities or can her Ot provide gloves or a barrier cream? you need to get some proff advice from her team who should all be on board to support.

you need a full detailed breakdown of medically diagnosed issues

allergy- is to all lsited substances or just some?

what substances exactly and in what forms

exposure/ingestion/inhalation/contact?

then you can start to determine best path to take
