Hi all,trawling the internet for this question.I have an employee due to have her baby in Mar 2013...but leaves my nursery to live abroad in Jan 2013....I knw that I still have to pay her SMP..but what if she returns to work elsewhere after the birth ? How will I know ad will the SMP continue.Anyone had experience of this? THnaks

I suggest you claim the smp in advance then you pay her what she is entitled to but it hasn't come out of your pocket at all. You just won't have the deduction in your PAYE. we did this when we had two staff on maternity at once and had to cover both of them.

Thanks Bagpuss..also have another member of staff off with baby since august.....that is a good idea...Manager rang powers that be yet and if she leaves 15 weeks b4 baby is born no SMP....its a minefield ...
