Check at 2
Check at 2

Dear everyone,
How do you all get around your "check at 2"?
I find it highly confusing to "produce" a piece of paper when noone has been able to get a format. It cant be a checklistbut but at the same time, you must be able to show progress or delay.
At the moment, we are writing a report around the prime areas within the first 6 weeks of a child starting school. But i am not totally convinced about it.
Any ideas on the subject please? Thanks

Our local early years advisors gave us a tracking tool and this will be an online format soon so they can spy on all 2 and 3 year olds. sure your advisors will have something to offer you.

Thank you Bagpuss, our EYA suggested to write a report in the 3 primes areas. But it looks like a report and for me it is not a tool where you can see straight away if a child is on track or not.
I know you mustnt use a check list but how do you then evidence that a child might need more support?

you need to judge whether they are in the correct band for their age
observe and then assess in the 3 prime areas
if they are in the band below their age, then that needs addressing
it might mean they need extra support or a referal to another agency or just closer observations
if they are in the band above their age then they may be gifted and talented and that needs addressing too
I think you are maybe overthinking it
I have just done all of my 2 year olds and have identified those that need extra support- which is done through the weekly planning

Remember you are writing the report for parents and the HV, not doing a tracking checklist for yourself. My settings do them termly for every child so we can see progress and concentrate on areas that need developing.

In our area these reports are for the parents only and are not to be sent to HV's!!
We do as purepurple

We don't send them to HV's but parents are asked to share them when they have their check (if they hafven't had it). HV's don't want copies as they havbe nowhere to put them!

we give a copy to the parents and advise them to share with hvs and keep the report in the red book
green wellies, there are some formats here-
