Leaving nursery report.

My colleague and I work in a pre-school room in a nursery and a few of our children are leaving this week to go to school. We were told about a week ago that we'd need to write a report to go with their learning journeys, summarising what they know. Can anyone provide any information on how to lay this out, etc? Do we need to follow the new EYFS, or because their learning journeys have been written following the old EYFS, do we use this? Any advice will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

I would use the old EYFS and write a brief summary about the child's progress in each of the 6 areas . One A4 side is enough. Sign, it date it, job done. I wouldn't spend too much time on it as I don't think many teachers bother too much with them as they prefer to do their own assessments and many teachers complain that the information they receive is not always reliable.

I would also do 2 copies and place both in the learning journeys  so the parents can decide whether to pass it on to school or not.

We write a short report for the areas of learning PSED etc detaling what the children can do, you sign them and get the parents to add a comment  the parents should also get a copy of the report which they can then keep with their child's flolder.  We copy the parents comments and place them in our SEF folder
