My Nursery is currently using the Tracker+ form of assessment but I am looking for an at a glance assessment form/sheet to replace this to put at the front of the children's profile. Can anyone help and perhaps share their method would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Jacquie,
How are you? I hope you are doing well. I am Mehreen Abdul Rehman from Pakistan. I am also in the field of Early Childhood Education. As far as concern about the methods of assessment, you can assess your children in a natural way means you do use authentic assessment tools. Now might be possible that you are thinking, What is authentic assessment? This means assess / observe children in their natural environment. We dont have to fix any day and date to take assessment. You can use different types of tool to assess / observe your children, for example: Checklists, protfolio, anecdotal records, rubric etc. There are many ways through which you can observe your children and make a protfolio for each child in which you will select the best sample of the work and put it in it.

With regards to Assessment and Observations we use the Interactive Learning Diary. http://www.interactivelearningdiary.co.uk.
I work in a reception class but the principles for a nursery are the same I think just different levels of the curriculum.
Might be worth checking out as they have the new curriculum in place already.

A new application for providers has been created called Orbit. Can i just say how fantastic it is! It allows you to put childrens profiles into an application to insure smooth transition from children's providers and parents. It has the new framework on along with the development matters and early learning goals and allows you to track children securely. We found as a provider that we have taken more photographs and observe children more with this application using an iPad and an iPod touch. Have a look it's brilliant!

To take a look at this fantastic application visit www.orbit.so. It's a great addition to our setting, financially has not cost us a penny and saved us money on staff - it's the best invention for Early Years in a while!

We have found with the Orbit App, there is No downloading, No printing off pictures & you can update children profiles instantly. Any observations, pictures taken or if the children's tracking sheets are up dated then this is instantly shared with parents or carers through a 'like' text message. So hopefully outstanding grades in working in partnership with parents from Ofsted. Parents can also send a postcard to settings so this is great if like us you have children at multiple settings throughout the days & commutation through the settings is excellent especailly with play plans etc or when children are in transition to school from providers. As an owner of a childcare company I would say this oriit app is the most cost effective way to run childcare business and is certainly the way forward for early years.
