Any suggestions to politely ask a mum to leave after 'dropping' her child off,who sits, and with earphones on,plays on her ipad....for 1-2 hours, disrupting the session. Her child (4) has been funded with us since September so not a new mum....but will, after the 2 hrs when her child has happily gone to play, she justs sits....then says 'mummy going, want to come home with me ?'..and the child does.Ideas anyone........

Does the iPad have a camera?

If so, use your ICT policy to state that she can't actually use that in the setting for Safeguarding reasons.

Hopefully she may get bored and leave sooner?

Talk to her and tell her that she is upsetting and disturbing not just her child but the rest of the group by staying. Be firm with her. She sounds like she doesn't know what to do with her spare time. Can you introduce her some of the other parents?

Already spoke to her about safeguarding,no crb, children coming past her to go to the toilet etc....she just got up and walked next to a member of staff...I thought she might be lonely,or cannot afford to heat her home lol....but seriously...it is very irritating..like having an ofsted inspector 3 times a week...

Why not send her to the staffroom if you have a seperate one? Say "You can always pop upstairs (or whereever yours is) for a cuppa and a biscuit, more peaceful there" Even say things like "We wouldnt want the children trying to grab your ipad, we do not have the insurance if it gets broken" She most probably feels bad leaving her child. So that way you can 'fetch' her if there are any problems. In time she will no doubt get bored and hopefully hit the shops, park or library.

THanks for that --good idea staff room is upstairs lol  and has the cctv running if she was worried about her child...but usually the child has settled in first 10 mins and gone to play....we shall see what this week brings.,,,,but her child could start school in sept....she cannot stay there ...x

Ask the obvious question: 'Why aren't you leaving?'

Or maybe:

'Would you like to become a volunteer with us?'
