Table top activities or not for Under Twos?
Table top activities or not for Under Twos?

Hi, I lead a room with children aged 15 months to 2 and half and staff have been sent on training based on this age group. At this training they were told that for our age group, floor level activities are best rather than having things on tables, this is also something I have been told be some other professionals I know from other settings. We implemented this in our room but are now being told by management that we should have things on table.
Does anyone have any knowledge or views on this at all? I prefer things on the floor and find that the children interact better with the activites on the floor, however sometimes I am not especially well listened to!!!
Thanks :)

have both, set up the activities you would prefer on the floor on the floor and tabkle top on the table thern rotate, keep a record of children interaction etc and present ur manager with the results. chances r if they prefer floor then tabletop will be removed x

Hi, you don't mention what type of setting you are in. Generally speaking i think activities should be on the floor but i like puzzles on tables(low ones). i work in the nursery (2yrs) of a prep-school and because the children are expected to sit at tables when they are 3/4, we and the pre-nursery class have some table activities and of course they all sit for snack.

I work with 18 months to 4 years old in one session and those under 2 don't have the concentration to sit for periods of time doing craft. They like to draw with crayons and don't seem to get much out of playdough.
