Hi Im from Ireland and i was just wondering what is the best way to go about getting a CRB check, I have a garda vetting certificate from Ireland that i got through college but im guessing that wont do for here...?? i have heard that some employers apply for the check for you, and also i read on a website that you need an employer to apply for it for you as u cannot apply for it yourself....but then i was trying to upload my CV on some babbysitting and nanny webites and they said i needed to have a CRB check already???

Hi Claire. Unless you are self employed you must have an employer or committee body apply for the CRB checks for you. As for Nanny and Babysitting websites, they basically want to list people who have current checks done in their work place that are then listed as available to babysit in an area. Personally, I disagree with these sites as I may employee someone who is competent to work as a nursery assistant with no access to any cash but they have an occurance of theft on their CRB. i wouldn't feel this person suitable to be working in someones home with access to a families personal belongings without further checks being made. A nanny would have a CRB applied for by the family as they are the employers.
