Ratio's & Qualifications required...

Hi, Can anybody confirm the qualifications and ratio's required for nurseries 0-5 years? I've read the EYFS requirement but it's worded so bad I cannot understand it.

I thought it was 1:8 for 3-4 years with one person at least a Level 3 and at least half the staff with a Level 2 or above, but according to this document, its says at least one perso to be level 6 and the rest level 3?!??

Thanks in advance, Im new :)

If you are thinking of running a nursery then the very least you should be able to do is to understand the EYFS.

I undertsnd that's not very helpful but it really isn't that hard.

3.33 For children aged three and over at any time in registered early years provision operating outside the hours of 8 am and 4 pm, and between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm when a person with Qualified Teacher Status, Early Years Professional Status or another full and relevant level 6 qualification, is not working directly with the children:
• there must be at least one member of staff for every eight children;
• at least one member of staff must hold a full and relevant level 3 qualification;
• at least half of all other staff must hold a full and relevant level 2 qualification.

Only a Qualified Teacher Status or Early Years Professional Status count as a Level 6 all other degrees are Level 3.

1:13 if you have one of the above 1:8 if you do not but have at least one Level 3 in the room.

Currently half your staff should be level 3 and half not.  However best practice is all your staff at level 3 or at least most with the rest in training

Hi all,

I have read and understand the EYFS, but can you have a level 2 working towards a level 3, and would it satisfy OFSTED.

If you have a level 6 it's 1:13 and at least one other must be level 3.

If you don't have a level 6 its 1:8 and at least one of them must have a FULL and RELEVANT level 3 qualification.  At Least half must have a FULL and RELEVANT level 2 qualification.

It is always best practice to have the most qulaified and most experienced staff you can!

I would take an afternoon and just slowly read through the EYFS so you understand it correctly and get used to it! It is hard when your new, but you'll get it in no time!

Thanks Haysworld, but the problem sometimes is that some level 2 are much better and experienced than level 3, why should a nursery employ a level 3 that is not that brilliant over a level 2 that is more capable just to satisfy OFSTED.

l am in that suitation at the moment had interviews the best candiates were level 2s the level 3 that attended would not leave then in charge of a room. i will just have to explain my findings to the inspector, if staf fis working towards a level 3 i think it should be acceptable, well i think.

Moan over

Thanks
