Ignorance about EYPS

by: bagpuss - 29-10-12 19:10

I am advertising for an EYP or QTS (not yet on Nursery World but it is heading that way). However I am getting CV's from random graduates, level 3's, level 2's and unqualified people. So EYP in every setting by 2015 ? The government better get some trained up then and had better advertise the position for more public recognition.

Where abouts are you? I'm currently doing the EYPS at Uni of Hertfordshire. There's 40 of us doing it now and will be another 40 starting in January so there's potentially a lot of us coming soon!

We get the same no matter what position we advertise. Even on admin/cleaning/maintenance when we request experience, people apply who actually state "I've had no experience but it's a job I feel capable of doing".

I would love to visit hospital wards and tell people I'm performing their operations. I'm not qualified, or had a dickie of experience, but by jove I've every confidence in myself!

the training system to blame for this. People should start at level 2 and work up. have you seen the forum silkysteps? i went on it last week and dear god what people on level 3 dont know is scary AND most of them dont have a 2. these arent NVQs we need to insist that people get their foundation learning in and build their knowledge. the other culprit is on line training, people on there are traning on line in 6 months! that is obscene our children deserve far far better.

The courses have to be full-time (not one of these mickey mouse degrees) and a realistically paid career.

Why invest in education when you get peanuts at the end...;)

Smallfry EYPS is postgraduate training for 12 months and starting salary is £18000 approx Qualified Teachers in nurseries are £24000 .

Talking of which, a BA Hons in Primary Education without QTS is still only a level 3 how can three years at Uni be the same as 1 year at college it makes no sense!
