i have just stopped working in nurserys due to the cons, which is a shame because i love the kids i cared for but its not worth the hassle. i know for a fact that i am not the only person who feels this way
pros-
1.you see the childen develop and become very attached to many of them
2.making some new friends with other staff
cons-
1.rubbish pay(i earned only £5.40 ph)
2.being treated like a second class citizen by many parents and management. we are given no or little respect
-when working in a nursery you quickly realise that it is the staff who really run the place, the managment just sit behind the desk looking pretty for visitors and parents and barking demands at staff.
3.TO0 MUCH PAPERWORK!!!
4. TOO MANY KIDS!!!(my former pre school section of a yorkshire nursery could take 64 3-5year olds at any one time)
5.TOO MUCH STRESS!!!(for the above reasons mostly)
6.lots of bitchiness.
7.too much expectations from staff. they expect you to be cook(making snacks) cleaner and a combined form of mary poppins and mrs doubtfire all at the same time, all the time, whilst smiling politely for parents and carers.
i wish i never got involved with private nurseries(i like council nurseries though,a lot friendlier and pay is better)
i am currently expecting my first child and my partner agrees with me that he/she will never set a foot inside a nursery. when you work in one you just see too much of the bad stuff going on,a bit like how many people who work in a restaurant say they will never eat the food there.
