Grateful for your advice on career change & getting started - 04-03-10 13:32

Hello all
have just come across this site today as I am looking to change my career and would be very grateful for any advice & words of wisdom that any of you could offer.
I am currently working as a civil servant - I do not have a background in childcare but would liek to change my carrer in that direction. I have alos thought about teaching at primary level am will be looking into this too.
I have always loved being around children and my most recent role in the civil service has invovled working with safeguarding children in some respects. I really feel that I could feel much more fulfilled and happy working in a nursery or other childcare setting that I do in my current job and am looking for some advice on where to start?!
I have GCSE, A'Levels and a degree behind me although agagin none of these are in child care subjects. I would be happy to work my way up, myabe starting as a nursery assistant and getting experience and qualifications that way but would really like some advice on approaching employers given my non-childcare background.
Many thanks for your time and any advice you can offer.
